Un album di totale rottura, uscito nel 1959, fu il primo a introdurre il free jazz, il jazz frutto di improvvisazioni, senza partiture.
Inutile dire che schioccò praticamente tutti, però ha anche influenzato un sacco di artisti, non solo jazz.
Particolarità, contrabbasso a parte, non ci sono strumenti a corda nella formazione che ha registrato il disco.
