È il nono disco in studio di una delle cantanti statunitensi più originali e dal pubblico più fedele dell’ultimo decennio. Il titolo è un riferimento al "dimenticato" Jergings Tunnel, situato sotto la strada Hollywood Boulevard, chiuso durante gli anni Sessanta.
La musica di Lana Del Rey è quella che viene definita in inglese “americana”, un genere che si rifà alla tradizione musicale statunitense intesa in senso più ampio, dal folk al country, dal gospel al blues, e che ha spesso avuto le sue manifestazioni più rappresentative negli stati centrali e del sud. Del Rey in realtà è newyorkese ed è cresciuta sulla costa Est, ma si è sempre ispirata ai grandi interpreti degli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta, e ha sviluppato uno stile molto riconoscibile, particolarmente orchestrale e cinematografico e, soprattutto, molto triste. Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd non fa eccezione: secondo Time Out, che l’ha messo al primo posto nella sua classifica del 2023, ha i testi «più intimi di sempre».
Insomma, nel panorama pop questa proposta è grasso che cola, anche se, secondo me, proporre un disco con 16 tracce nel 2023 è molto stupido, o coraggioso.
In ogni caso da darci un ascolto.
